Kua Number Calculator
Your Kua (Gua) number comes from Eight Mansions Feng Shui. It gives you four favourable and four less favourable directions — which only become useful when you see them in your own rooms.
Your four favourable and four less favourable directions appear here — then you can see them laid over a real floor plan.

What the directions are used for
Eight Mansions uses your directions for three things: the direction the top of your head points while sleeping, the direction you face at a desk, and — for some practitioners — the facing of the front door. They describe a traditional framework rather than predictions. In House Quest the personal layer sits beside, not on top of, Form School and Bagua findings.

Questions
How is the Kua number calculated?+
From your solar birth year (which starts at Li Chun, around 4 February) using one of two traditional formulas. The result is 1–9; a result of 5 becomes 2 in the male formula and 8 in the female formula.
I was born in January — which year do I use?+
The previous year. Feng Shui years begin at Li Chun, not 1 January or Lunar New Year. The calculator handles this automatically, including the exact Li Chun day for your year.
What are East and West group numbers?+
Kua 1, 3, 4 and 9 form the East group (favourable: N, S, E, SE); Kua 2, 6, 7 and 8 form the West group (favourable: W, NW, SW, NE).
Is my birth date stored?+
