Feng Shui Living Room
The sofa here floats in the middle with its back to the doorway. Try moving it against a wall, or turning it to face the entrance, and watch the three checks.

Gathering, not guarding
The living room is where people gather, so Feng Shui guidance is about comfort and flow: the main seat has something solid behind it, the entrance is in view, and people can move through without squeezing past furniture.
- Sofa backing — a wall behind the sofa, or a console table / cabinet if it floats.
- View of the entrance — seated on the sofa, you can see who comes in.
- Circulation — we route a 60 cm path from the door to the sofa around the furniture.
Living rooms often hold the centre of the home, which Bagua treats as the Health area connecting all others. See which Bagua areas your living room covers on the Bagua floor plan page.

Questions
Should the sofa face the door?+
Facing or diagonally viewing the entrance applies the commanding position to the main seat. Sitting with your back to the doorway is the placement most often adjusted.
Is a floating sofa bad Feng Shui?+
Not inherently — it is simply less “backed”. A console table, low shelf or screen behind it is the common way to add support.
Where should the TV go?+
There’s no single rule. Keep it from blocking circulation, and in bedrooms avoid a screen facing the bed.
