Feng Shui Home Office

This office starts with the most common work-from-home layout: desk against the wall, back to the door. Rearrange it and see which checks change.

Why the desk rules mirror the bed rules

The desk is where you spend your most active hours, so Form School applies the same commanding-position idea: see the door, have something solid behind you. The difference is that work is yang — so light and an open view in front are welcome.

Small rooms and shared spaces

In a spare bedroom or corner nook, turning the desk to face the door often breaks the “back support” check. A low bookcase or folding screen behind the chair is a common compromise. If the desk has to face a wall, a small mirror or reflective lamp that lets you see the door is the traditional workaround.

Questions

Should my desk face the door?+

Form School prefers that you can see the door from your seat, ideally diagonally, without sitting directly in its path. Facing a wall with your back to the door is the placement most often adjusted.

Is it bad to sit with my back to a window?+

A window is not treated as solid support. A wall or tall furniture behind the chair is preferred; if that’s impossible, many people add a high-backed chair.

What about desk direction and my Kua number?+

That is Eight Mansions, a separate method. The desk direction room lets you pick a Kua number and rotate North to see which way you face.
