The stove as the heart of the home
Classical texts treat the stove as the most important appliance — it feeds the household. Two placement ideas follow. The cook should be able to see the kitchen door, and the stove’s Fire should not sit in direct conflict with Water.
Fire and Water in Wu Xing
In the Five Elements controlling cycle, Water restrains Fire. A stove directly beside a sink, or facing it across a narrow aisle, is therefore reviewed. The traditional buffer is Wood — which Water feeds and which feeds Fire — so a wooden counter section, board or plant between them is a common response.
- Stove position — the door is visible from the cooking spot.
- Sink relationship — stove and sink not side by side or face to face.
- Circulation — a clear 60 cm route from the door to the stove.
- Storage — closed storage placed for a clear counter.
The full home also checks the stove’s element against its Bagua sector. See it in the Demo House with the Five Elements layer.

Questions
Can the stove be next to the sink?+
It is commonly reviewed because it places Fire beside Water. If you can’t move either, a wooden element or counter space between them is the traditional adjustment.
Which way should the stove face?+
Form School focuses on the cook seeing the door. Some compass methods also consider the stove’s direction — those are separate, advanced layers.
Does the kitchen location in the home matter?+
Bagua and Flying Stars both consider it. Open the full home to see which sector your kitchen occupies and this year’s star there.
