Facing direction in Eight Mansions
Eight Mansions (Ba Zhai) assigns each Kua number four favourable and four less favourable compass directions. For work, the favourite is usually Sheng Qi (生气), associated with growth, followed by Tian Yi, Yan Nian and Fu Wei. Here, “facing” means the direction your eyes point when you sit at the desk — not the direction the desk’s back points.
Direction vs. position
It is easy to optimise one and break the other. The favourable direction might put your back to the door. The room shows both checks side by side so you can find the layout that satisfies the most — and it keeps the methods separate so you always know which rule you are following.

What is the best desk direction for Kua 1?+
For Kua 1 the favourable directions are South-East (Sheng Qi), East (Tian Yi), South (Yan Nian) and North (Fu Wei). Pick 1 above and rotate the desk to see them.
Should I use magnetic or true north?+
Most practitioners take a compass (magnetic) reading at the home. A phone compass is fine for exploring; readings near metal can be off by several degrees.
Which matters more — facing a good direction or seeing the door?+
They come from different methods. Many practitioners prioritise the commanding position first, then fine-tune facing within it.
