Feng Shui Front Door

The main door is called the mouth of qi. In this entry a mirror faces the door and a line runs straight through to a back window. Move things and see the entry checks respond.

The entry, one metre at a time

The first steps inside the front door are the Ming Tang or “bright hall”. Traditional guidance keeps them open and well lit so the home feels welcoming — to guests, and in Feng Shui terms, to incoming qi.

The door and the Bagua

The front door is also the anchor for the BTB (Black Hat) Bagua, and a key reference for Compass School methods. See how the nine areas shift when the door moves on the interactive Bagua map.

Questions

Can I have a mirror facing the front door?+

It is commonly avoided in traditional practice. Moving the mirror to a side wall of the entry keeps its usefulness without facing the door.

What if my front door lines up with the back door?+

This “piercing” line is often softened with a plant, screen, rug or console table part-way along it — anything that gently slows the straight run.

Which direction should the front door face?+

Different schools read facing differently. In House Quest you set the direction, then the Bagua and annual layers use it — see the compass tools in the Demo House.
